GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer program will be adding eight new players to the 2017 roster, according to head coach Jeremy Bonomo. Three joined the Phoenix mid-year, comprised of Brady Lenius, Adam Mansa, and JT Spath. The other five, including Antonio DeCastro, Stephen Foley, Julian Jordan-Canosa, Nikola Kahvedzic and Jamison Yoder, will be stepping onto the field for the first time in the fall.
Heading into his third season with the Phoenix, Bonomo said, "Our second recruiting class since our staff's arrival is an exciting one. We have a good mixture of international experience, youth national team experience combined with quality domestic players. We were able to have three early signees which absolutely makes a difference with the fall depth chart. When you combine this class with our existing young core, it will be exciting to watch what they are all capable of once we get on the same page come preseason".
Brady Lenius
Hometown: Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
Club Team: FC Wisconsin
Previous College: Saint Louis University
Position: Midfield
Intended Major: Business
Bonomo on Lenius – "It's always great when kids leave Wisconsin and come back home. Brady is a local kid we watched coming out of FC Wisconsin but by the time we took over here at Green Bay, he was already committed to Saint Louis. By joining us this past spring, he was able to step in right away and contribute. We are excited to see what Brady brings to the table."
Adam Mansa
Hometown: Copenhagen, Denmark
Club Team: FC Copenhagen
Position: Center Back
Intended Major: Undecided
International Experience: Represented Denmark at the U15 and U17 age groups
Bonomo on Mansa – "Adam comes from arguably the top youth program in Denmark, FC Copenhagen and has international experience with the Danish Youth National Team. He joined us this spring and did quite well adjusting to the college landscape. He will add depth and experience to our back line."
JT Spath
Hometown: Troutman, North Carolina
Club Team: Carolina Rapids
Previous College: Louisburg College
Position: Left Back
Intended Major: Economics
Accolades: Won 2015 NJCAA National Championship at Louisburg College
Bonomo on Spath – "JT is the last of our trio to join us mid-year this past spring. Coming off a NJCAA National Championship at Louisburg, JT brings a winning mentality that will be helpful. We look forward to what JT will add to our left side."
Antonio DeCastro
Hometown: Green Bay, Wisconsin
Club Team: FC Wisconsin
Position: Midfield
Intended Major: Business
Bonomo on De Castro – "Antonio is a local product from Preble HS and FC Wisconsin. We look forward to working with Antonio and molding him into yet another quality young player for our roster. It's always positive when we can attract the best local players."
Stephen Foley
Hometown: New Berlin, Wisconsin
Club Team: MKSC Academy
Position: Center Back
Intended Major: Political Science
Bonomo on Foley – "Stephen is a physical player that has what it takes to handle the rigors of college soccer. Adding him to our depth in the back line was needed. His mentality and work rate was identified early in the recruiting process."
Julian Jordan-Canosa
Hometown: Barcelona, Spain
Club Team: CF Badalona
Position: Forward
Intended Major: Undecided
Bonomo on Jordan-Canosa – "Julian came up in the youth system of Espanyol and will be able to add explosiveness and speed to our attack. His ability to challenge defenders 1 v 1 will be a big help to our front line."
Nikola Kahvedzic
Hometown: Belgrade, Serbia
Club Team: FK Bask
Previous College: University of Northwestern Ohio
Position: Goalkeeper
Intended Major: Business
Accolades: 2016 NAIA First Team All American
Bonomo on Kahvedzic – "Coming off a fantastic run to the NAIA National Championships and being name 1st Team All-American, Nikola will bring experience and depth to our goal line. We look forward to his addition in goal for us."
Jamison Yoder
Hometown: St. Charles, Illinois
Club Team: Chicago Fire Academy
Position: Goalkeeper
Intended Major: Marketing
Bonomo on Yoder – "Jamison is coming from the Chicago Fire Development Academy. We are certainly excited to have him joining us. Sometimes student-athletes are overlooked in the recruiting process and I think that is the case with Jamison. He has a lot of upside and is the right fit for Green Bay men's soccer."
