Kress Center Celebrates 10 Years of Success, Hosts Women's Basketball Game Thursday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- As we enter November, the Kress Events Center approaches its 10-year anniversary. Green Bay Athletics will be celebrating the anniversary and the success of the KEC on Nov. 2, when the Green Bay women's basketball team welcomes Michigan Tech with tipoff slated for 7 p.m. in exhibition action. Tickets will be available for $10 for fans looking to catch the action.

On November 2, 2007 the the Kress Events Center, a $33 million state-of-the-art facility, opened its doors for its first athletic competition as the Green Bay volleyball team played host to in-state rival Milwaukee.

A crown jewel for the UW-Green Bay campus, the KEC not only services a continually growing body at UW-Green Bay, but houses Green Bay Athletics in a first-class home. The entire student body benefits from first-class recreation, health and wellness spaces as well as the opportunity to host student and campus activities such as commencement, convocation, student orientation sessions, campus life programming, concerts and community events in the main events center.

Success has been abundant in the KEC's 10-year history, both on and off the courts of competition. The Green Bay women's basketball team has amassed a 147-15 all-time record within its friendly confines, combined with a 82-5 mark in Horizon League play. The program's success has also led to eight Horizon League Tournament Championships being hosted on its court.

Nearly two years ago (Nov. 4, 2015), the Kress Events Center welcomed its one-millionth fitness-and-recreation patron visit. The one-millionth visit milestone was not merely an estimate. It was an actual electronic count of users — primarily UW-Green Bay students but also faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and community members — reflecting only those who enter the Kress and register at the front desk for recreation/fitness or student-athlete purposes.

Outside the realm of athletics and fitness and recreation, the Kress Events Center has served as a site for numerous political rallies. Prior to becoming President of the United States, the KEC hosted a rally for then-presidential-candidate Barack Obama in February 2008. Most recently on the political front, the KEC welcomed Bernie Sanders in April of 2016. The facility was also recognized as one of the top 20 "Most Impressive College Gyms and Student Recreation Centers" by Best Value Schools in November 2013.

Fans are encouraged to join us on Nov. 2 at Green Bay women's basketball's exhibition against Michigan Tech to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Kress Events Center. Former women's basketball standout Lavesa Glover ('08) will be performing the national anthem prior to tipoff.
