GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Henry Uwadiae (Benin City, Nigeria) will join the Green Bay men’s basketball team beginning with the 2014-15 season, head coach Brian Wardle announced on Monday. Uwadiae, a 6-foot-11, 240-pound transfer from Kirkwood Community College in Iowa, will be eligible immediate as a sophomore next season.

“We are extremely excited to have Henry join our program,” said Wardle, the 2014 Horizon League Coach of the Year. “With the departure of Alec Brown, we needed to fill a void inside. Two areas where we pride ourselves in this program are defending and rebounding the ball, and Henry can instantly provide production in these areas and a shot-blocking presence. Offensively, he is a physical player with a high motor who runs the floor well and is a good finisher, and we look forward to watching him develop in our program over the next three years.”

Uwadiae played in 2013-14 as a freshman for Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The center with a 7-foot-5 wingspan helped the Eagles to a 21-10 overall record and a 10-4 mark in conference play.

“I’m excited to continue my career with basketball and pursue my degree at Green Bay,” Uwadiae said. “The program is a good family with good people, and I spent some time with the guys and they were really sincere and said they really need me and want me there. Coach Wardle seems like a very good person and someone who will have my best interests at heart. I’m so excited about the whole thing and to play as a part of a team that wins.

“The way I play is like a bull. I play mean and aggressive, and I have the mindset to win and that nobody can intimidate me. That is just me.”

A native of Nigeria, Uwadiae attended the Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte, N.C. as a high school senior. He originally committed to Wichita State before enrolling at Kirkwood for junior college. As a senior in high school, he was given a very high grade of 85 by ESPN Recruiting analysts.

Uwadiae signed with Marshall and was set to join the Thundering Herd in 2014-15, but after a coaching change the program granted him his release.

Uwadiae becomes the member of Green Bay’s 2014 recruiting class, joining incoming freshmen guards Daeshon Francis (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Khalil Small (Chicago, Ill.), who signed with the Phoenix in November.
