GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Horizon League announced its 2013 men’s soccer all-league honors, and the Green Bay Phoenix had three players recognized on the list as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Senior Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and junior Lawrence Talery (Coon Rapids, Minn.) were tabbed to the All-League Second Team while Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.) was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Milwaukee’s Laurie Bell earned co-player and offensive player of the year honors, sharing player of the year honors with UIC’s Bob Novak. UIC swept the remaining major awards, with Josh Beard named the defensive player of the year, Andrew Punta named the freshman and goalkeeper of the year and head coach Sean Phillips taking home coach of the year.

“I’m excited that Sam, Lawrence and Audi were recognized for their contributions this season,” head coach Dan Popik said.

Krenzien earned all-conference honors for the third time in his career after being named All-League First Team last season in addition to being on the All-Newcomer Team as a freshman. Krenzien had an outstanding senior campaign, starting all 17 matches while finishing with team-best 11 goals and 26 points. Both totals were personal single-season highs and also ranked him second in the Horizon League. Earlier this season he earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling a combined eight points in matches against Eastern Illinois and NJIT.

For his career, Krenzien appeared in 65 matches, totaling 52 points with 22 goals and eight assists. He was also named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll three times.

“Sam had a tremendous season and was at the top of the league in all offensive categories,” Popik said. “He is a true competitor that gave his best day in and day out.  It’s an impressive feat to be named to the All-League team two consecutive seasons in different positions.”

Talery concluded the 2013 season with 14 points on four goals and a team-high six assists. This season he netted his first career collegiate goal while also adding an assist in a 3-3 draw at then-No. 12 Marquette. He followed that performance with a two-assist showing in a 2-1 win in the home opener against Western Illinois. It is the first postseason honor for Talery.

“Lawrence was a major piece of our offense this season,” Popik said. “I believe he has the best first touch on the ball and creativity in the league.  He has that wow factor and is a lot of fun to watch play.  After missing last season due to an injury he came back and had the best statistical season of his career.”

A true freshman, Jepson appeared in 16 of 17 matches for the Phoenix and made 13 starts. In his first collegiate game, he scored what proved to be the game winner in a 3-2 triumph at DePaul. He also added two assists on the season with one each in games at Wright State and UIC.

“Audi is one of the hardest workers on the team and I’m glad to see him get rewarded for his efforts,” Popik said.  “He improved in many areas over the course of the season.  If he continues to work hard and dedicate himself to improving his game he will have a bright future for this program.”

The Phoenix concluded its season with an overall record of 7-7-3 while going 2-4-1 in the Horizon League.
