GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After two weeks off, the Green Bay men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to the trails on Saturday for the Horizon League Championship meet, hosted by Youngstown State in Borden, Ohio. The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. while the women hit the ground running at noon.
Led by sophomore Sarah Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.), the women’s side will look to build on a 2013 regular season that gave the squad more experience and consistency. Mauel finished as the top runner for Green Bay in every meet this season, and finished in the top 50 in all but one race this season. She finished second at the Concordia Falcon Invite on Sept. 14, and earned a fifth-place finish at the Chaparral Invite on Sept. 27.
Senior Alexander Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) has provided the men’s team with veteran leadership throughout the season while consistently posting impressive finishes. The senior standout finished 23rd against a tough field at the Badger Season Opener hosted by Wisconsin, earned a 14th-place finish at the Falcon Invite and later turned in 24th-place performance at the Chaparral Invite.
