GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After scoring the first goal of his college career and helping the Phoenix post a shutout against Detroit, Green Bay freshman Brandon Hall (O’Fallon, Mo.) was recognized for his efforts when he was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Starting against the Titans on Saturday, Hall netted the game winner in the 43rd minute on a set piece play. A Detroit handball outside the box set up the opportunity for the Phoenix, with service into the box coming from Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.). After bouncing off several bodies, Hall collected the ball and snuck it past Detroit keeper Nathan Steinwascher for his first career collegiate goal.
Hall also helped the Green Bay defense post its second shutout of the season, holding strong against a late Detroit offensive push to improve the squad to 2-1-1 in the conference and 7-4-3 overall.
This season Hall has appeared in nine matches for the Phoenix with four starts. He has one goal and one assist, with the helper coming in a 4-4 draw against Eastern Illinois earlier this season.
It is the third player of the week honor for the Phoenix after Sabastian Xiong (Cottage Grove, Wis.) and Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) took home offensive honors earlier this season.
The Phoenix returns to action on Saturday, playing a 6 p.m. match under the lights at Wright State.
