GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After turning in an impressive outing at the CSU Invitational over the weekend, Green Bay men’s golf junior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) has been named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
After going more than three years without a Golfer of the Week, the Phoenix has secured the first two awards of the season with fellow junior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) taking home honors last week.
On Tuesday, Collard led Green Bay to its third victory in four meets this season with his second consecutive round of 1-over par 73, finishing in a tie for second place individually (146=73-73). His total score of 146 was just one shot back of medalist Ricardo Solis (145=75-70). With his second-place tie, Collard has finished in the top 10 in all four events this season.
The junior standout was on point throughout the tournament, notching 23 pars in the 36-hole event and led the field in scoring on par-four holes with a 2-under par average. He was also one of just five players to record an eagle in the event.
Collard and the Phoenix will return to the Chicagoland area this weekend to compete in the Dallio Memorial hosted by DePaul at Ruffled Feathers Country Club. The 11-team, 54-hole event will begin with two rounds on Saturday and conclude with Sunday’s final round.
