BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Senior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) carded a pair of 1-under par rounds of 71 on Monday at Stone Ridge Golf Club, putting the Green Bay men’s golf team in contention just three shots off the pace at the John Piper Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament hosted by Bowling Green State University will conclude on Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes.
At 2-under par, Collard is tied for fifth place and is also just three shots off the individual leader, Marshall’s Logan Lagodich. Marshall and Valparaiso are tied atop the tournament leaderboard at 577 (+1) while the Phoenix is alone in third at 580 (+4). Green Bay was fifth after the opening 18 holes before posting 3-under par 285 – the best round of the day – in the afternoon.
Coming off a victory in the Green Bay Invitational, junior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) opened with a 75 on Monday before bouncing back and carding a 3-under par 68 in the afternoon to vault into a tie for seventh place.
Freshman Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.), fresh off a third-place finish in the Green Bay Invitational that earned him a spot in the team’s top-five, shaved five strokes off his score from round one to round two. Du Chateau’s rounds of 76 and 71 put him in a tie for 12th entering the final 18 holes.
Sophomore Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) is tied for 22nd (73-76=149) and senior Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) is tied for 31st to round out the Phoenix golfers.
