GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Third-year Green Bay women’s tennis head coach Sara Schubring has announced four additions to her 2013-14 squad, including two Green Bay area natives and three players who advanced to the WIAA State Championships on either the team or individual level. The four newcomers bring the Phoenix roster to six players, rounded out by sophomores Stephanie Londre (Kimberly, Wis.) and Rachael Menos (Burlington, Wis.).
New to the team this season are Lauren Miketinac (Green Bay, Wis.), Claudia Negron (Lima, Peru), Noel Peck (Green Bay, Wis.) and Carly Van Nuland (Kimberly, Wis.). Each player will look to make an immediate impact as the Green Bay women’s tennis team opens its fall season this weekend at the Cougar Fall Invite hosted by Chicago State.
“All of these players are committed to performing the daily efforts required to compete in Horizon League tennis,” Schubring said. “They are consistently offering their best effort and practicing a positive attitude, and I’m happy to have them join Green Bay women’s tennis.”
A graduate of Green Bay Preble High School, Miketinac advanced to the individual state tournament in 2011 and 2012. Impressive on the court and in the classroom, she was a member of the National Honor Society during her senior year in 2012-13.
Negron, a native of Peru, brings a wealth of national and international tournament experience to the Phoenix. She held her country’s No. 1 ranking in the 12-, 14- and 16-year-old age divisions and also competed in the 2010 USTA Orange Bowl.
A four-year standout at Green Bay Southwest, Peck joins the Phoenix roster after advancing to team state competition with the Trojans in each year of her high school career. She was named team captain for the 2012 season and eventually advanced to individual state competition in doubles play.
Carly Van Nuland
Van Nuland, a native of Kimberly, Wis., served as the No. 1 singles player for the Papermakers during her senior campaign. Following a successful season, she received an All-Fox Valley Association Honorable Mention nod and was also named to the Appleton Post-Crescent’s All-Area team. As a junior in 2011-12, Van Nuland advanced to individual state competition in doubles play.
