GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s and women’s cross country teams will look to hit the ground running as the 2013 campaign is set to begin next weekend, cross country head coach Mike Kline announced on Friday. The Phoenix will compete in eight races on the year with three events held in Wisconsin.
The season gets underway next Saturday, Aug. 31, when Green Bay travels to the Chicago area to compete in the UIC Home Opener at Swallow Cliff. The women’s team will begin its season with a two-mile run at 10 a.m., while the men’s team starts the year with a 4.1 mile race at 10:30 a.m.
The Phoenix will then compete in consecutive meets in its home state, starting with the Wisconsin Open Cross Country Meet hosted by Wisconsin at the Zimmer Cross Country Course at The Ridges Golf Course. Green Bay will travel to Mequon the following weekend for the Falcon Invite at Concordia on Sept. 14.
After a few weeks off, the team will wrap up the 2013 regular season with meets at Notre Dame on Oct. 4 and at Bradley on Oct. 18. Green Bay will compete in the Horizon League Championships at Youngstown State on Nov. 2, with the men’s team running an 8K race and the women’s team a 5K. NCAA Tournament action begins just more than a week later with the NCAA District Regional in Madison on Nov. 15 and the NCAA National Championship hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.
