GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Team Academic Award recipients for the 2012-13 academic year on Wednesday, recognizing UW-Green Bay as one of the record-setting 130 NCAA Division I schools on the list. The Phoenix earned an outstanding 3.565 grade-point average and garnered its ninth AVCA team honor since 2001.
“We are extremely proud of our team for earning such an impressive honor,” first-year head coach Michaela Franklin said. “Our team is committed to excellence both on and off the court, and this award is a reflection of their hard work and dedication.”
The award, which was initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale. All told, a record 622 college and prep teams were recognized in 2012-13.

Green Bay officially begins practice for the 2013 season on Friday and will hold an open scrimmage and free kids clinic at the Kress Center on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 3:30 p.m. Franklin’s squad will play its first regular season contest on Aug. 30 against Northern Illinois at the NIU Invitational.
