GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Former Green Bay women’s basketball standout Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) has been selected to the NetScouts Basketball USA All-Star team that will play in the Four Nations Tournament in China from June 17-30.
The USA squad will play a round-robin tournament in three Chinese cities for a total of nine games. Other teams in the tournament include the Chinese National “B” Team, the Australia Rising Opals and the national team of Hungary.
“I was really excited to get the call to go and play in China and represent the USA,” Eichler said. “It will be a great way to get myself ready for playing international basketball. I have never traveled this far for anything before, and it’s really amazing to see all the new places that the game of basketball can take you.”
Eichler’s team will play games in Jiangxi Province (June 17-23), Changshu (June 25-27) and Beijing (June 29-30).
Eichler was a four-year starter at Green Bay from 2009-12 where she aided the Phoenix to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, four Horizon League regular season titles and three conference tournament titles. Eichler’s teams posted an astonishing 122-12 overall record and advanced past the NCAA Tournament First Round on three occasions. She finished her career as the school’s all-time leader in games played with 133.
A member of Green Bay’s 1,000-point club, Eichler earned second-team all-league and all-defensive team honors as a senior in 2012-13 after finishing second on the Phoenix in scoring (11.8 ppg) and steals (45). She was also an all-newcomer team pick as a freshman in 2009-10, and played a key role in Green Bay’s run to the Sweet 16 in 2010-11.
Two of Eichler’s former Phoenix teammates – Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) and Stephanie Sension (Hopkins, Minn.) – recently returned from China where they played in a similar tournament with the NetScouts All-Star team. Ritchie and Sension helped the USA to a championship in the tourney with a 7-2 record.
