GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay freshman Jordan Fouse (Racine, Wis.) has been named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman All-American Team. The versatile 6-foot-7 forward’s rookie campaign with the Phoenix included breaking the program’s freshman records for rebounds and steals in a season.
Fouse earned a starting spot for the Phoenix by the season opener and finished the year as one of just three players to start all 34 games. The runner-up for Horizon League Newcomer of the Year averaged 6.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. He also was the lone freshman to earn one of just five spots on the Horizon League All-Defensive Team.
Fouse’s rebounding average led the Horizon League, making him the first freshman in the conference to do so since 1995-96. With 268 rebounds, he grabbed more rebounds in a season than any freshman in program history and the second-most by any player in the Division I era. His 55 steals set a freshman record and his 49 blocks were the second-most by any freshman and the most in a season by any player not named Alec Brown.
The versatile forward sparked a Green Bay defense which led the conference in field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal percentage defense and blocked shots per game in league play. He helped Green Bay hold at least five opponents in the forties for the first time since 2000-01 season and break the program record for blocks in a season.
Highlighting Fouse’s versatility were 13 points, 11 rebounds and a record-tying seven steals against Loyola on Jan. 9 and a 17-point, 13-rebound, 4-assist, 4-steal and 3-block effort against Cleveland State on Jan. 19.
Fouse will carry two impressive streaks into his sophomore season. He has blocked a shot in 23 consecutive games and has also grabbed at least five rebounds in 19-straight games.
