HOUSTON, Texas (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
- Green Bay senior diving standout Mitchell
Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) wrapped up his stellar Phoenix career on Tuesday at
day two of the NCAA Zone 'D' Diving Regionals at the CRWC Natatorium in
Houston, Texas. It marked Spaeth's second straight trip to Zones.
After missing out on the 1-meter finals on Monday, Spaeth
turned in an impressive performance in Tuesday's 3-meter prelims, posting a
score of 309 to earn one of the 18 finals qualifying spots. Spaeth put up a 295.45
in the finals, placing 17th overall with a combined score of 605.45.
"I am so happy to see Mitchell go out strong in his
finial diving competition with the Phoenix," Green Bay diving coach Tom Stover said. "To do it in this
setting with some of the best divers in the nation right alongside him, that
was very impressive to see."
Spaeth's 605.45 in the 3-meter was just shy of the best
Zones score in school history in the event, as Daniel
Pogue recorded a 606.15 in 2012. His score and placement were also the
highest of any Division I men's diver from a Wisconsin school at Zones this
The Phoenix swimming and diving teams recently competed
at the 2013
Horizon League Championships in Chicago (Feb. 27-March 2), with the men's
squad placing fourth and the women's squad taking third. Spaeth earned a pair
of strong finishes at the conference meet, taking fourth in the 3-meter
(322.40) and fifth in the 1-meter (276.45). Spaeth was also named
Horizon League Diver of the Week on Feb. 5 after winning both boards on
Senior Day against Milwaukee.
