MUNICE, Ind. ( - The Green Bay men's tennis team continued its fall schedule over the weekend with a strong showing at the 33rd annual Ball State Invitational, held at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. The three-day tournament wrapped up on Sunday with the Phoenix prevailing as the winner of one singles and two doubles brackets.

Senior Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) posted a 5-0 record to take home the Flight A Singles title, defeating Louisville's Michael Lippens 6-2, 6-0 in the final match on Sunday. It marked the third time in as many tournaments this fall that Swanson took home a singles crown, as he also won his respective individual flights at the Bradley and Purdue Invitationals.

In doubles action, the freshman tandem of Michael Tebon (Excelsior, Minn.) and Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) won the Cardinal bracket, beating IUPUI's Joel Modesitt and Nick Volz 9-8(2) Sunday. In addition, Swanson and junior Craig Cox (Surrey, England) came away with the consolation title in the Flight A doubles bracket.

The tournament consisted of a 12-team field, which included opponents from Ball State, Butler, DePaul, Duquesne, Eastern Kentucky, IPFW, IUPUI, Louisville, Marquette, Northern Illinois and Purdue. There were three singles draws with 32 players apiece, as well as three flights of doubles consisting of 16 pairs apiece.

The Phoenix is next in action at the ITA Midwest Regionals, held Oct. 13-17 in Columbus, Ohio.
