Green Bay Nordic Ski Competes at Junior National Qualifiers
Cable, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) –The Green Bay Nordic skiing team continued the early part of its season this past weekend, traveling to Cable, Wis., to participate in the Telemark Central Super Junior National Qualifiers at the Telemark Resort Trails.
The women’s 5K and men’s 10K were held on Saturday followed with the women’s 10K and men’s 15K on Sunday.
Phoenix senior Matt Nichols had an impressive couple of days, placing 10th in both the 10K and 15K courses. Sophomore Jake Ajax finished sixth in the U-20 classification in the 10K race (21st overall), while junior Kyle Marshall also placed inside the top-20 in the 15K, finishing 20th.
On the women’s side, junior Bree Mucha produced a top-20 result in the 5K distance (20th), while leading the Phoenix in the 10K race as well, again finishing in 20th place in the region.
Green Bay will return to Houghton, Mich., next weekend to partake in the Central Qualifying Series from Jan. 30-31, before it gears up for the CCSA Conference Championships in Minneapolis on Feb. 13-14.
