Eight Nordic Skiers Named to All-Academic Team

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Eight Green Bay student-athletes are among the 276 members of the 2015 National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team. The team was announced Friday by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association.

Sophomore Kayla Billett (Anoka, Minn.), redshirt sophomore Katie Burger (Hayward, Wis.), redshirt senior Hanne Guthrie (Chanhassen, Minn.), freshman Maddie McKeefry (Andover, Minn.), junior Ben Lindberg (Rochester, Minn.), redshirt sophomore Kyle Marshall (Roseville, Minn.), senior Chris Nichols (Wausau, Wis.) and senior Matt Nichols (Wausau, Wis.) were the members of the Phoenix who earned the award.

One of the most difficult academic teams of its kind nationally, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.5 grade point average and have competed in one of the three NCAA Regional competitions to be selected.

The team consists of members from 29 colleges and universities from throughout the nation.

Green Bay wrapped up team competition at the NCAA Central Regional Championships last weekend. Freshman Jake Ajax (Minneapolis, Minn.) is competing at the U.S. Junior National Championships in Truckee, Calif. beginning on Monday, March 9.
