Nordic Skiing Posts Top-Ten Finishes in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Two finishes in the top ten highlighted the Green Bay Nordic skiing team’s performance at the Twin Cities Championships Junior National Qualifiers this weekend.
Sophomore Kyle Marshall (Roseville, Minn.) finished 6th in Sunday’s 10k college skate race. It’s the second consecutive week in which Marshall has claimed a top-ten finish in a meet.
“Kyle proved that his fitness is sustainable,” said coach Steve Teclaw. “He paced the multiple lap race very well and held or improved his position with each lap.”
Green Bay’s women’s squad was paced by sophomore Bree Mucha (Soldotna, Alaska), who claimed a 10th place finish in Sunday’s 5k college skate race.
“Bree had an awesome race Sunday with great skis and obvious determination on each lap,” said Teclaw.
The event was forced to move from St. Paul, Minn. to Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis, Minn. due to snow conditions. The venue in Minneapolis had the ability to make snow, while the venue in St. Paul did not.
“Overall I think the confidence is building within the team as our fitness continues to improve along with a few breakout performances in varying conditions,” Teclaw said.
The Phoenix will take a week off before it travels to Duluth, Minn. on Feb. 7 and 8 to compete in the CCSA Championships Sprint and Relay.
