Green Bay Wraps Up Second Day at Conference Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams returned to the pool on Thursday to participate in the second of the four-day 2016 Horizon League Championship meet at the Oakland Aquatic Center.

The Phoenix men concluded day two in fifth place among the league's seven-team field with 145 points, while the women are in seventh, claiming 127 points halfway through finals competition.

Senior Willem Poelmans (Hasselt, Belgium) had the best result of the day for the Green Bay men, claiming fourth place in the 200 yard IM A final, clocking in at 1:48.62. Meanwhile, freshman Charles Warren (Dubuque, Iowa) took home first in the B final, finishing in 1:50.86.

On the women’s side, the 200 yard freestyle relay A final group consisting of Alicia Hanson (Shawano, Wis.), Racheal Weiland (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), Claire Friederick (Lancaster, Wis.) and Tess Frey (Madison, Wis.) placed fourth in 133.30, while the junior Friederick won the B final of the 50 freestyle in 23.26 and Stephanie Garvin (West Chicago, Ill.) ended second in B final of the 500 freestyle in 4:59.49.

Switching over to the diving boards, sophomore Bailey Wagner (West Bend, Wis.) appeared in her first finals competition of the weekend on Thursday, taking home a third-place finish in the 1-meter B final with a score of 244.90.

Both squads return to action tomorrow morning at the Oakland Aquatic Center, with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. CT and finals starting at 4:30 p.m. CT. All events will once again be streamed live on ESPN3, with Friday’s events found here (morning) and here (evening).
