Michael Klemm Earns Third Diver of the Week Award
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – For the third time this year, Green Bay sophomore Michael Klemm (Rockford, Ill.) was recognized as the Horizon League Men’s Diver of the Week for the period of Feb. 2- Feb. 8, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Klemm won the Phoenix’s lone event of last weekend at UW Natatorium by placing first in the 1-meter with a final score of 324.52, which added to his NCAA Division I Zone Cut scores this season and fell just shy of his season-high of 328.60 on Nov. 6 at Green Bay’s fifth annual 1-2-3 meet.
The native of Rockford, Ill., becomes the first Phoenix diver to win three weekly awards in a single since 2011, when Daniel Pogue won a total of seven times, twice accomplishing it in back-to-back-to-back weeks. Pogue later went on to establish the school-record in the 1-meter with a score of 379.15 at the 2012 Horizon League Championships.
"Michael has continued to hone and develop his diving skills throughout this season," said diving coach Tom Stover. "He really stepped it up at Madison on the 1-meter board."
The award is Green Bay’s fourth diver of the week award this season, as Klemm won previously on both Nov. 3 and on Dec. 15 and fellow sophomore Bailey Wagner won for the first time in her career last week.
Overall, the Phoenix has been awarded a total of eight times by the conference during the 2015-16 year.
Green Bay will now have nearly three weeks to gear up for its final meet of the season, when it will travel to Rochester, Mich., for the Horizon League Conference Championships from Feb. 24-27 on the campus of Oakland University.
