Men Sixth, Women Eighth at Midwest Open

KENOSHA, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – In the second meet of the 2015 campaign, the Green Bay cross country teams raced Saturday morning in the UW-Parkside Midwest Open at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. As a team, the Phoenix posted a sixth-place finish out of 11 teams on the men’s side, and an eighth-place finish out of 12 teams in the women’s competition.
The top finisher for the for the Phoenix men was sophomore Mitchell Bilitz. A native of Fon du Lac, Wis., Bilitz placed fourth overall with a time of 25:58, breaking the 26-minute barrier in his first attempt of the season at 8k.
On the women’s side, the Phoenix was led once again by sophomore Kimberly Hurst who was able to claim the 11th-spot overall on the individual leaderboard with a finishing time of 18:53. Joining Hurst in the top-25 was senior Sarah Mauel, who crossed the line in 19:13 for a 22nd-place finish.
The Green Bay cross country teams have almost two week off prior to being back in action on Sept. 25 when they travel to Warrenville, Ill., for the DuPage Invitational.Men's Team Standings:
