GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
– After posting an unbeaten record over the weekend, Green Bay senior Howard Scott
(Exeter, England) was selected as the Horizon League Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period of April 12-18, the league announced on Tuesday. It marks the third such honor in Scott’s career.
"Howard's wins in both singles and doubles this weekend were big in helping our team to pull out two victories over strong conference opponents," said head coach Daniel Bickett
Scott helped Green Bay to a perfect 2-0 mark in a pair of Ohio road matchups, sweeping all four of his matches— twice apiece in No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles competition.
The native of Exeter, England, beat Youngstown State’s Hugo Morth in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, in Saturday's 4-3 win
over the Penguins, before continuing his winning ways on Sunday by defeating Cleveland State's Mirko Radosevic, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Scott proved just as formidable when paired with fellow senior Joey Leto
(Downers Grove, Ill.) as the duo defeated the aforementioned Morth and Matthew Kritzinger of YSU, 6-4, and then Colton Buffington and Kevin Goth of CSU, 7-5. The tandem has posted a team-best 13-3 record this season, including eight wins in their last 10 appearances.
Winners of a season-best three straight overall, the Phoenix (11-6, 4-1 HL) will conclude regular season play next weekend in Highland Heights, Ky., against Northern Kentucky (8-5, 3-2 HL), before turning its attention to Horizon League Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., from April 29- May 1.
