Kiela Paces Phoenix at Jackrabbit Invitational
PRIMM, Nev. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay Phoenix men’s golf teed up its 2016 spring schedule in the desert over the weekend, taking part in the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State just outside Las Vegas, Nevada.
Senior Gene Kiela III (Plymouth, Wis.), claimed the best finish for the Phoenix, finishing in a tie for third place at even-par. Kiela shot back-to-back 70’s in the first two rounds of the tournament, and was tied for the lead after 36 holes. Kade Brown of Creighton made a hard charge in the final round and won the individual tournament with a final score of seven-under par.
Fellow senior Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.), finished just outside of the top ten in a tie for 11th place. Du Chateau bounced back from a shaky first day to shoot a final-round 68 and climb 22 places up the leaderboard on Tuesday.
Senior Ryan Reinke (Brillion, Wis.), also shot under-par in the final round, finishing with a two-under 70 that made for the best round in his collegiate career. Reinke finished tied for 34th at nine-over par for the tournament. Green Bay finished in eighth place as a team.
The Phoenix will be back in action March 21-22 at the Missouri State Intercollegiate in Springfield, Missouri at Twin Oaks Country Club.
