NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Wind gusts of 35 miles-per-hour caused some high scores at the UNO Invitational on Tuesday. Green Bay senior Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.) navigated the field and watched from the clubhouse as his lead held up.
Du Chateau won the individual title by posting a total score of four-under par, two shots better than the second-place finisher, Dale Crothers from Iowa Western Community College. On Monday Du Chateau tied the Green Bay program record for lowest 18-hole score with a seven-under par 65. He shot a an even-par 72 in his second round of 18 holes on Monday, then followed that with a three-over par 75 in Tuesday’s round. No player scored below a 70 on Tuesday as the elements proved a true challenge in Nebraska City, Neb.
One player was able to post a two-under 70, despite the wind gusts. Green Bay freshman Chapin Orr (Dodgeville, Wis.) improved with every round in his collegiate debut. Orr shot a two-under 70 in the final round Tuesday, and finished the tournament even-par in a tie for third place. The Phoenix freshman shot an opening-round 75 Monday, then rebounded to shave four strokes off his next 18 with a 71 to close out 36 holes of play. Orr was one of only four players in the 75-man field to post a round under par Tuesday.
Senior Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) shot a six-over 78 in the final round, finishing eight-over par and tied for 17th. Kiela fired a 74 and 72 in his first two rounds on Monday. The Phoenix finished +44 as a team, good enough for 8th place in the 12-team tournament.
Green Bay also had two members of the team taking part in the AMFAM Fall Invitational at The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wis.
Freshmen Jeff Stemper (East Troy, Wis.) and Bennett Hutson (Onalaska, Wis.) represented the Phoenix at the tournament hosted by UW-Parkside. Hutson shot a one-under par 71 in the final round Tuesday, moving him up the leaderboard into a tie for 18th place. Stemper finished the tournament +21 and tied for 41st place.
Next up for the Phoenix is a trip to Dakota Dunes, S.D. to take part in the Coyote Classic hosted by South Dakota beginning Monday, Sept. 21.
