Three Phoenix Programs Recognized by NCAA for APR Success
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – As part of the 2017 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP), the men's tennis program along with both Phoenix cross country programs were recognized by finishing in the top 10 percent of their respective sports nationwide for their high Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores accumulated during the 2015-16 academic year.
It marks the sixth-straight year that the Green Bay women's cross country program finished in the top 10 percent and the fifth-straight year the men's cross country program was recognized for finishing in the top 10 percent amongst their sport. This is the third time that Green Bay men's tennis has been recognized by the NCAA for their APR score.
Men's tennis and women's cross country were recognized on Tuesday at the Fourth Annual Student-Athlete Honors Night for their exemplary GPAs. Each being awarded the Men's and Women's Team GPA Award.
"I am extremely proud of our men's tennis team, men's cross country team and women's cross country team on this recognition from the NCAA. This honor highlights the diligence of our Green Bay student-athletes upholding the high standards set by administration, their coaches, and themselves," said Kassie Batchelor, Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator.
Phoenix student-athletes have accumulated a 3.0 GPA or higher for 34 consecutive semesters dating back to the spring of 2000. A cumulative 3.35 GPA this fall was the highest-ever recorded during a fall semester.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation while providing a measure of each team's academic performance.
