Charles Cooper Named Horizon League Player of the Week
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Thanks to averaging over 20 points per game and helping Green Bay get off to a hot 2-0 start in league play, senior guard Charles Cooper has been named Horizon League Player of the Week. It’s the first player of the week award for any Phoenix player this season and comes following the opening week of Horizon League play.
Cooper was the key factor in Green Bay going 2-0 to open up Horizon League play for the fourth-straight season, as the senior averaged 20.5 PPG over two impressive road wins at Cleveland State and Youngstown State. Cooper came off the bench in both games, but still scored a team-high 19 points against the Vikings and another team-high 22 points against the Penguins.
The native of Gary, Ind., registered his second career double-double at YSU on New Year’s Eve, tallying 19 points and 10 rebounds. Cooper attempted 21 free throws in the two games and grabbed 18 rebounds, both team highs as well. Even though he didn’t start for the first time in his career at Green Bay, he still played the third-most minutes on the team.
Cooper leads Green Bay in scoring (13.5 PPG) this season and rebounding (5.4 RPG), while his recent efforts have led his team to a four-game winning streak.
The award is Cooper’s first Player of the Week honor of the season and for his career. He’s the first Green Bay player to be named Horizon League Player of the Week since Jordan Fouse (Nov. 30, 2015).
The Phoenix and Cooper will now play three-straight Horizon League games at home, starting with in-state rival Milwaukee on Friday night at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets to that game, which is also a Bud Light Night, click here or call 920-465-2625.
