GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Thanks to a strong record-breaking junior campaign, Green Bay volleyball junior Lydia DeWeese has been named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) North All-Region Honorable Mention, the association announced on Tuesday. DeWeese is the first Phoenix volleyball player to earn AVCA honors since Brittany Groth in 2012 and is just the third player ever to receive the recognition, joining Janelle Tomlinson (2002 and 2003) on the short list.

DeWeese was named Horizon League First Team All-League and also landed on the All-Tournament Team this past season, while playing a key role in her team’s 21-9 strong season. The Phoenix finished runner-up to top-seeded Cleveland State, falling in five sets at the Horizon League Tournament in Cleveland.

The native of Columbus, Ohio, finished third in the NCAA (as of Dec. 5) in blocks per set with 1.63. DeWeese currently ranks fourth in the NCAA in total blocks and also finished second on her team in kills (315) and points (415.0).

DeWeese broke several school records this past season, including hitting percentage (.353), total blocks (187) and block assists (174). She currently sits as the career record holder for hitting percentage (.329) and ranks eighth all-time in total blocks with 337. Should she repeat her junior campaign number for total blocks, she will become the program’s all-time leader in that category.

The middle-blocker led the Horizon League in hitting percentage (.353), which also ranked in the top 100 of the NCAA. DeWeese appeared in all 115 sets that Green Bay played in this season, which ended as one of the best seasons in program history.

DeWeese also boasts a 4.0 GPA as a Human Biology major, which landed her on the Horizon League All-Academic Team.
