DeWeese, Powers and Totka Garner All-Academic Team Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ( --- Green Bay volleyball student-athletes Lydia DeWeese, Megan Powers and Taylor Totka were among the student-athletes honored for their success both in competition and in the classroom by being named to the 2016 Fall Academic All-League team for volleyball, as announced by the league office on Friday.

DeWeese leads the Horizon League in blocks and hitting percentage while also leading her team in points this season. The junior owns a perfect 4.000 GPA as a Human Biology major. 

Powers is right behind DeWeese for the points lead on the Phoenix and is the team leader in kills with 309 and 2.97 per set. The senior from Glendale, Ariz., ranks seventh in the Horizon League in hitting percentage. She has a 3.955 GPA and is majoring in Human Biology.

Totka has totaled 70 blocks and 1.75 kills per set as a junior. She's appeared in every set this season and has also racked up 21 service aces. The native of Racine, Wis., is the owner of a 3.976 GPA as a Human Biology major.

Six of the nine schools were represented on the Academic All-League Team with Northern Kentucky topping the charts with four student-athletes in Taylor Snyder, Haley Libs, Tristen Simpson, and McKenzie Eskridge. Green Bay had three student-athletes recognized with Megan Powers, Lydia DeWeese, and Taylor Totka representing the Phoenix. Cleveland State and Valparaiso each had two players honored with Grace Kauth and Shannon Grega highlighting the Vikings while Katherine Carlson and Rachel Bruinsma were featured for the Crusaders. Rounding out the list, Katie Klusman (Wright State) and Lauren Blanco (Youngstown State) both earned their spot on the team.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
