LOUISVILLE, Ky. ( –  The Green Bay softball team took the diamond for the first time in three weeks at the Red & Black Tournament in Louisville, Ky., this afternoon, dropping its first game of the day to Louisville, 8-0, before later falling to Bowling Green, 15-4.

Louisville 8, Green Bay 0 (6 innings)

The Phoenix (1-6) faced a tough Cardinals (10-6) team in its tournament opener, one that had already played 15 games in the season compared to Green Bay’s five.

Louisville started things off with a pair of runs in the first after a two-RBI single from Nicole Pufahl. The Phoenix managed to keep the Cardinals off the board in each of the next three innings, but the fifth and sixth innings saw six Louisville runs touch home plate to enforce the eight-run rule over the Phoenix.

Abby Brinkmeier (1-for-2), Brennan Engel (1-for-3), Jaclyn Delagrange (1-for-2) and Hailee Frey (1-for-2) all notched hits for Green Bay in the opener.

Bowling Green 15, Green Bay 4 (5 innings)

Green Bay managed to get on top in this one first, as Olivia Magaldi managed to touch home in the first inning on a wild pitch after being walked earlier.

Bowling Green (7-9) wasted no time responding to the one-run deficit in the bottom of the first, as the Falcons plated nine runs off of six hits and two defensive miscues by the Phoenix.

Green Bay began to rally in the second inning of play when Chyanne Onstad turned in a three-RBI double to right field that brought Frey, Allie Hislope and Bailey Schultz around to score, lowering Bowling Green’s advantage to five runs.

The rest of the game, however, was all Bowling Green as it went on to hand the Phoenix its sixth loss of the season in five innings, 15-4.

Green Bay will return to the diamond tomorrow morning against Indiana State at 9 a.m. followed by a rematch with Louisville at 11:30 a.m.
