Softball Inks Six During Early Signing Period

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – Head coach Scott Wachholz and the Green Bay softball program released its 2017 recruiting class on Monday, one that consists of six incoming student-athletes ranging from four different states. Each of them come in with numerous high school and travel ball accolades and achievements.

“In our first recruiting class here at Green Bay, we knew we had to hit the ground running.  There were areas we knew we had to address with graduation and to help keep the program moving forward," Wachholz said. "Pitching, offensive athleticism, and infield play were big targets for us in this class, and we feel each of these players brings a specific skill set which will allow us to compete at the top of the Horizon League. Each of these players definitely has the ability to make an impact right away which is very exciting.”

Signing with Green Bay are Alexis Kinnaird (Tiffin, Iowa), Crystal Guzman (St. John, Ind.), Elizabeth Pautz (Pulaski, Wis.), Morgan Bihun (Schaumburg, Ill.), Kayla Schwebke (Rosendale, Wis.) and Jillian Foote (Antioch, Ill.).

Guzman on Green Bay: “I have always dreamed of playing collegiate softball, and I am so proud to say that Green Bay is the perfect fit for me. The coaching staff is great and took the time to really get to know me as both an athlete and more importantly, a person. After visiting campus and meeting some of the team, I knew that I had found my new home. Green Bay has promising opportunities for me that I am excited to explore. My parents, coaches and teammates are to thank for pushing me to be my best, and I wouldn't be here without them. I am so blessed to be a part of the Phoenix family.”

Pautz on Green Bay: “I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to further my education and softball career at Green Bay. I grew up watching and cheering for Phoenix athletics, and I have always been envious of the athletes on the teams. My biggest dream was to play the sport I love at the collegiate level. I can’t wait to represent the city that I grew up in, and I’m proud that I will be able to continue to call Green Bay home. I’m honored that I get to play for Coach Wachholz, and I certainly can’t wait to become a part of the Phoenix family.”

Foote on Green Bay: “I attended a Green Bay softball camp with a teammate, not knowing what to expect and was surprised and excited to finally find a campus that felt like home. When I met the coaches, team and learned more about the academic programs, Green Bay soared to the top of my list. I am confident that I can be successful both on and off the field at Green Bay and can’t wait to get started. I am blessed to play for Coach Wachholz and the Phoenix next fall, and for my family, coaches, and teammates who helped get me here.”
