14th Annual Phoenix-Packers Steak Fry Recap
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Several hundred supporters of the Green Bay Phoenix and the Green Bay Packers attended the 14th annual Phoenix-Packers Steak Fry on Tuesday, April 22 at Lambeau Field, helping Green Bay Athletics raise more than $81,000 for student-athlete scholarships and program support.
Over the last 14 years, the annual joint venture between Green Bay’s most legendary teams has helped raise nearly $900,000 for the Phoenix Fund – the principal fund for scholarships and program support at UW-Green Bay.
The event began with a social hour, where guests mingled with Phoenix student-athletes, coaches and staff, as well as several Packers players and personnel. Following a steak dinner, the crowd heard from Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy, UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden, Green Bay Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie and men’s basketball head coach Brian Wardle. The evening concluded with a live auction.
Chris Roth of WBAY was the emcee for the event, while the always-entertaining Bill Jartz – also of WBAY – served as the auctioneer. The live auction items included a Chef’s Table dinner at Chive’s, golf packages to Door County and Whistling Straits, a charter fishing trip with women’s basketball head coach Kevin Borseth, a Door County winery tour with Gillespie, a trip to Belize, a backyard cookout with Wardle and a Packers game day experience.
