Phoenix Fund Has Something to Crow About
Thanks to the wonderful leadership of Phoenix Fund Board members, Jeff Beinlich and Mike Meeuwsen, a special "Festival Foods Chicken Toss" fundraiser landed an Incredible $17,000 for the Phoenix Fund and student-athlete scholarships.
Jeff and Mike came up with the creative idea to utilize the typical game day Festival Foods Chicken Toss promotion as a special fundraiser for the Phoenix Fund. They actively solicited pledges from our Phoenix Friends, asking for minimum pledges of $5 per chicken caught with the potential to catch all five rubber chickens. Jeff volunteered to be the catcher and Mike served as the launcher on Saturday, February 13, when the women's basketball team hosted Milwaukee at the Kress.
Performing in front of a crowd of over 2,700, they successfully landed all 5 chickens. The best was the last chicken that was off the charts in terms of degree of difficulty as it bounced in front of the cart and landed on the bottom rack. Per the interpretation from the "Official Chicken Toss Association" review committee, count it for a perfect 5 for 5!
Rewatch the Launch!
