Phoenix Nordic Skiers Compete at Mayor's Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's Nordic skiing teams competed in the Mayor's XC Challenge over the weekend, racing in the classic events on Saturday and the freestyle events on Sunday.

Freshman Hanne Guthrie (Chanhassen, Minn.) led the Phoenix women on both days, placing 41st in Sunday's 10K freestyle race with a time of 26:23.3 after racing to 61st in Saturday's 5K classic (20:18.6).

Sophomore Eddie Gurney (Brookfield, Wis.) turned in a pair of solid performances for the Phoenix men over the weekend, leading the way with a 37th-place finish in the 10K classic on Saturday (24:37.4) and then racing to 41st in the 15K freestyle on Sunday (37:07.3).

Freshman Matt Nichols (Wausau, Wis.) paced the Phoenix men on Sunday, finishing one spot ahead of Gurney in the 15K freestyle with a time of 37:03.9.

Green Bay is back in action this Saturday and Sunday in St. Paul, Minn., for the fourth NCAA qualifier of the season - the Central Grand Prix Super Tour.
