MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Members of the Green Bay men’s and women’s diving teams wrapped up their participation at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on Wednesday at the University Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus. The event featured 89 of the region’s top divers from the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

Representing the Phoenix on the women’s side were senior Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) and freshman Crystal Franzwa (Winona, Minn.), while sophomores Tanner Nordlund (Rice, Minn.) and Sean Leverton (Blaine, Minn.) qualified on the men’s side. Dinelli, Franzwa and Nordlund all competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter events for Green Bay over the three-day meet, while Leverton qualified but did not dive.

All four Phoenix divers were first-time Zone qualifiers by virtue of their scores throughout the season. It also marked the first time in school history that Green Bay had four NCAA Division I Zone qualifiers in the same season.

Franzwa – the first Green Bay female to qualify and compete as a freshman – had a solid showing in her Zone debut. The newcomer placed 37th out of 48 divers on the 1-meter board with a score of 227.55, which represented the best Zone score in school history by a Phoenix female on the low board. Franzwa was also 45th in the 3-meter event (208.95).

Nordlund finished in 35th in the men’s 1-meter prelims, totaling a score of 244.25. The sophomore was 38th on the 3-meter board, finishing with a score of 226.95.

Dinelli capped off her standout Phoenix career by placing 42nd on the 3-meter and 43rd on the 1-meter, respectively. The senior accumulated scores of 208.95 on the high board and 208.20 on the low board.

“I was very happy for Carrie to finally get to compete at the Zone meet in her final season at Green Bay,” Phoenix diving coach Tom Stover said. “In addition, our younger divers – Crystal and Tanner – can use this highly-competitive experience to build on for the future. They will continue to grow and get better because of this experience. Next season looks very promising for our diving teams.”
