CHICAGO (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 on the young season on Saturday afternoon, rallying for a 4-3 road victory against DePaul in the Windy City. The Phoenix dropped the doubles point to start the match, but rebounded to win four of the six singles contests to hand the Blue Demons (1-1) their first loss of the year.

DePaul grabbed the 1-0 lead by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Green Bay’s lone doubles win came at the No. 1 spot, as the tandem of Howard Scott (Exeter, England) and Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) outlasted Filip Dzanko and Jan-Willem Feilzer 6-5 (6).

The Phoenix regrouped in singles play, corralling wins at the top three spots to move within a point of clinching the match.

Scott and Tenzer both won their second matches of the day in singles action, as Scott picked up a win at the No. 1 spot against Dzanko (6-2, 6-4), and Tenzer beat Adam Reinhart (6-4, 6-1) at No. 3. Sophomore Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) delivered another point for Green Bay with his 6-0, 6-1 rout of DePaul’s Kyle Johnson at No. 2.

Securing the victory was freshman newcomer Jorge Gonzalez Soler (Madrid, Spain), who defeated Tim Corwin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to clinch Green Bay’s fourth and final point.

The Phoenix has a quick turnaround, traveling to Milwaukee to face IUPUI in a neutral-site contest on Sunday at 10 a.m.
