GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay volleyball program is set to host its annual Alumni Day this weekend surrounding its home match against Valparaiso on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Kress Center.
The weekend officially kicks off on Friday night when the Phoenix hosts UIC at 7 p.m. All alumni and their guests will receive free admission to both matches.
“I’m really excited to get our alumni here this weekend,” first-year Green Bay head coach Michaela Franklin said. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet quite a few of them over the past year, but it will be great to put some more names with faces and to get them out to the Kress Center and have them see what we’re doing as a program.”
All alumni in attendance on Saturday will be introduced on the court between sets two and three. Green Bay will also celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2003 squad’s Horizon League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance with a special video tribute.
Other alumni activities on Saturday include a meet-and-greet with the current Phoenix team, as well as a pre-match tailgate party at Mackinaw’s beginning at 2:30 p.m.
With five regular season matches remaining, Green Bay is currently fourth in the Horizon League standings with a 5-4 record (10-12 overall). Freshman Shannon Hurley (Connellsville, Pa.) leads the conference in kills per set with a 3.42 average, while senior teammate Leah Van Zeeland (Kaukauna, Wis.) is second at 3.20. Sophomore transfers Jillian Bauer (Verona, Wis.) and Emily Riese (Fond du Lac, Wis.) have also played key roles on this year’s squad, as Bauer leads the league in total digs (419) and digs per set (4.87), and Riese ranks first in assists (904).
