Green Bay Wraps Up 2011 Season at Great Lakes Regional Race

Green Bay will graduate a combined seven seniors from this year's men's and women's squads

TOLEDO, Ohio. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2011 season, competing in the Great Lakes Region Championships at Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.

On the women's side, Green Bay finished ahead of fellow Horizon League teams Valparaiso, Wright State, Cleveland State and Detroit as Lauren Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.) completed a solid year rounding out the top 100 runners. Mauel completed the 6K course in a time of 22:31.3, running an average pace of 6:03/mile.

Junior Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) crossed the line in 23:37.6, running an average pace of 6:21/mile. Freshman Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.) finished her first collegiate district race in a time of 24:15.9 while running a 6:31/mile pace. Classmates Erica Johnson (Flint, Mich.) and Kayla Hucke (Hartland, Wis.) crossed the line in 24:33.7 and 26:04.2 respectively, rounding out the top five scorers for Green Bay.

Other competitors for the Phoenix included Annie Dehmlow (Forest Lake, Minn.) (26:40.5) and Lindsy Cook (Rhinelander, Wis.) (27:14.7).

As a team the Phoenix finished in 28th place scoring 851 points. Green Bay returns its top five runners next season and graduates two seniors in Dehmlow and Stacey Sell (Menasha, Wis.).

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) paced the Phoenix with a time of 34:14.8, running an average pace of 5:31/mile. Senior Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) completed his career at Green Bay with a 34:41.7 finish, averaging a 5:35/mile pace.

Junior Steve Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) completed the 10K course in a time of 35:50.1, averaging 5:46/mile pace. Freshman Andy Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) ran his first collegiate district meet in a time of 36:33.9 (5:53) while senior Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) closed his career with a time 36:40.5 (5:55/mile)

Junior Billy Lobner (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and sophomore Jacob Nitzke (Fremont, Wis.) also competed for the Phoenix finishing with times of 36:57.1 and 37:19.7 respectively.

The Green Bay men will graduate five seniors from this year's squad in Blomsness, Clark, Andrew Dockendorff (La Crescent, Minn.), Andrew Geiwitz (Onalaska, Wis.) and Karl Weyenberg (Wrightstown, Wis.).

Michigan won the women's event with 45 points while Wisconsin claimed the team title on the men's side scoring 50 points.
