SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women’s tennis team’s 2012-13 season came to a close on Friday evening, as the Phoenix fell 7-0 to Detroit at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich. Green Bay finished the year 1-21 overall and 1-6 in Horizon League play, while the Titans improved to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in conference action with the win.

Detroit started the match by claiming all three doubles contests, and then went on to secure each of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Senior Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) battled hard in her final match with the Phoenix, but ended up falling 6-4, 6-1 to Detroit’s Julia Fernandes at the No. 3 singles spot.

Green Bay finished the season seventh in the league standings, just outside of qualifying for the 2013 Horizon League Championships. The league’s top six teams advance to the conference tournament, held April 26-28 in Indianapolis.
