Anderson Posts Victory in Final Home Match

Senior Maria Anderson earned a hard-fought win on Saturday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Playing in the final home match of her career, senior Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) posted a victory at No. 3 singles on Saturday evening as Green Bay (1-20, 1-5 HL) lost to visiting Wright State (7-13, 2-2 HL) 6-1 in Horizon League women’s tennis action at Western Racquet and Fitness Club.

Anderson won the opening set against Taylor Hines 6-3 before Hines forced a deciding 10-point tiebreak. In the back-and-forth tiebreak, Anderson won the final three points to post the victory 10-8.

Two other singles matches featuring Phoenix freshmen went to the third-set tiebreak. At No. 2 singles, freshman Stephanie Londre (Burlington, Wis.) battled back to take set two 6-4 after falling 6-1 in set one to Alex Bastock, who won the tiebreak 10-4.

Fellow freshman Eleanor O’Brien (Northfield, Minn.) won the first set 6-3 before Megan McNamara responded to win the match 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.

Green Bay will conclude its regular season on Friday, April 19, playing at Detroit at 7 p.m.
