GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Former Green Bay men's soccer standout goalkeeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.), who graduated in December after serving four years as a starter for the Phoenix, was hired as a graduate assistant goalkeeper coach at Lipscomb University, Bisons head coach Charles Morrow announced Thursday.

Wehking will focus on helping improve Lipscomb's goalkeeping squad, which will return all three members from the 2012-13 roster next season. The Bisons finished 7-12-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Atlantic Sun conference last season, ending the season in heartbreaking fashion in the A-Sun tournament with a 2-1 loss to No. 1 seed Florida Gulf Coast in double overtime.

"Ryan's leadership abilities and understanding of the goalkeeper position, along with his experience of being an NCAA Division I student-athlete will help him transition into his new coaching role," Green Bay head coach Dan Popik said. "He had a fantastic academic and athletic career at Green Bay and I am confident his work ethic, personality and passion for the game will be an asset to Lipscomb."

In front of his family that traveled all the way from St. Louis, Wehking became Green Bay's all-time leader in shutouts when he recorded his 20th scoreless outing in a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Aug. 24. He also finished fourth on the Green Bay career record list in both saves and goals-against average with 260 stops and a 1.16 GAA. He was a team captain for two years, and also a member of the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years.
