GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Senior Megan Braatz (Waukesha, Wis.) of the Green Bay women's soccer team has been named to the 2012 All-Horizon League Second-Team, the league office announced on Monday. In addition, freshman Sydney Born (Edina, Minn.) was voted by the league's head coaches to the All-Newcomer Team.

Braatz, who played her last game in a Phoenix uniform on Saturday, led the Phoenix in goals (5), assists (3) and points (13) this season. Her five goals are tied for second among all Horizon League players while she is also tied for third in points and tied for ninth in assists.

"I'm delighted that Megan was honored by the Horizon League," said head coach Trevor Warren. "She was on a hot streak of late and scoring important goals for us. Not many people know, but Megan was a walk-on her freshman year. I quickly saw the drive and talent she had, and it wasn't long before I put her on a scholarship. She has been a tremendous part of this program, she has never questioned or complained regardless of what position she played, and she has been an absolute pleasure to coach. I wish I could have 11 "Braatzies" on our team, and she will be greatly missed by our program."

In her career with the Phoenix, Braatz scored seven goals in 67 career games and totaled 19 points and five assists. The business administration major also tallied three game-winning goals in a Green Bay uniform.

In her first season with the Phoenix, Born played in 16 games and became a leader as a center defender. Born also became a threat in offensive set pieces, and the defender scored her first career goal in just her second game, finding the back of the net against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 25.

"Sydney Born came in and won the position of right center back very early in preseason," said Warren. "She has played virtually every minute at that position as a true freshman. Sydney was not only able to bring very good defensive qualities which are required of that position but also was very composed on the ball and important in starting our attacks. She has a tremendous future in the program, and I am happy that the other coaches in the HL recognized and rewarded her play."
