GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team (3-10-4, 1-4-2) travels downstate for its final regular season contest of 2011 on Friday against league-leading and nationally-ranked Milwaukee (15-2-0, 7-0-0). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at Engelmann Stadium.
The Phoenix needs a win over the 15th-ranked Panthers, as well as a Cleveland State loss at Wright State, in order to clinch the sixth and final Horizon League tournament spot.
LAST WEEK: Both the Phoenix and the Panthers enter Friday night's contest coming off losses last Sunday. Green Bay dropped a 2-0 decision to Butler on Senior Day at Santaga Stadium, while Milwaukee suffered just its second defeat of the season, falling 3-1 at Illinois State.
THE SERIES: Friday will mark the 29th meeting between the two schools, with Milwaukee owning a 21-6-1 advantage in the all-time series. Green Bay is looking for its first win at Engelmann Stadium since 1996, which would snap an eight-match losing streak against the Panthers.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: Milwaukee boasts one of the nation's top offenses, knocking in 41 goals in 16 matches this season for an average of 2.41 goals per game. Leading the way is senior forward Sarah Hagen, who ranks second in the NCAA in points per game (2.75) with 19 goals and six assists.
GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Phoenix has been one of the top defensive teams in the Horizon League in 2011, allowing just 16 goals in 17 contests (0.89 goals-against average). Green Bay has held its opposition to one or zero goals in all but three matches. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) leads the conference with 94 saves, while posting five shutouts on the year.
FOLLOW IT LIVE: Fans unable to make the trip down I-43 for Friday's game between the Phoenix and the Panthers can catch all the action online. Live video will be available on the Horizon League Network, while live stats will also be available after kickoff.
