DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team (3-9-3, 1-5-1 Horizon League) dropped a 3-0 decision on the road to Wright State (9-8-0, 4-3-0 Horizon League) Friday night at Alumni Field. With the loss, the Phoenix falls out of contention for one of the six spots in the 2010 Horizon League Tournament.
"We came out too sluggish in the early part of the first half and were punished for it," Phoenix head coach Trevor Warren said. "As the game wore on we got more into the game and it was much more even. The girls played hard and never gave up or let me down."
The Raiders got on the scoreboard early with a goal by junior midfielder Sara Palermo in the seventh minute of action. Wright State followed with another quick strike when junior midfielder Brittany Persaud scored in the 20th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Palermo's goal was her first of the season, while it was the sixth goal of the year for Persaud.
Persaud was also involved in Wright State's third and final goal when she found sophomore defender Lauren Patterson on a corner kick in the 66th minute. The goal was Patterson's fourth of the season.
Green Bay was outshot 14-8 in the contest, including 5-2 in shots on goal. Phoenix junior Chelsea Colling (Appleton, Wis.) led the Phoenix with three shots, including one on goal.The Phoenix returns home for its regular season finale on Sunday against Detroit. Sunday will be Senior Day for Green Bay, as the team's five seniors will be honored prior to kickoff.
