KALAMAZOO, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s tennis team (6-4) dropped a 4-3 decision to Western Michigan (6-3) on Friday evening at the West Hills Athletic Club, kicking off a stretch of three matches in a three-day span.

The Phoenix and Broncos split the six singles contests, but the hosts swept the doubles point to start the match, which proved to be the difference maker.

Picking up singles victories for Green Bay were Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany), Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) and Rowan Isaaks (London, England).  Tenzer earned a come-from-behind win at the No. 2 spot, beating WMU’s Andrew Cahn 5-6, 6-2, 6-4, Gomez Islinger beat Ruben Greiner 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3, and Isaaks also battled to a comeback win at No. 5, beating Michael Treis 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Broncos won all three doubles contests, including two of them in tiebreakers. Green Bay’s freshly-ranked (No. 40) duo of Tenzer and Howard Scott (Exeter, England) fell 6-5 (5) at the top spot, while Isaaks and Gomez Islinger dropped a tight 6-5 (4) decision at No. 3.

Green Bay is back in action on Saturday morning in Kalamazoo, taking on IPFW at 9 a.m. The Phoenix then heads to Ohio to take on Toledo on Sunday at noon.
