Green Bay Starts Hot, Never Looks Back at Marquette
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women’s basketball team started hot on the road against in-state rival Marquette (6-2) this evening at the Al McGuire Center, all led by Jessica Lindstrom who scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to secure her fifth double-double of the season in the 78-63 Phoenix victory.
Green Bay (7-1) jumped out to a 16-3 lead over the Golden Eagles, as Lindstrom, Mehryn Kraker, Allie LeClaire and Lexi Weitzer all hit three-pointers in the first five minutes of the game. At the end of the first, the Phoenix had built up a 23-11 lead and owned an 11-6 advantage in rebounds.
Marquette attempted to rally in the third quarter and lowered Green Bay’s lead to nine points with 44 seconds remaining in the period, but the Phoenix were able to hold off all attempts at a comeback and pick up the 78-63 win.
Mehryn Kraker scored 19 points in the win, shooting 7-of-12 and finishing with a team-high four assists in 38 minutes. Allie LeClaire joined Lindstrom and Kraker in double figures with 15 points of her own on 5-of-12 shooting. The junior guard also picked up three assists and grabbed a rebound in 30 minutes.
The victory improved Green Bay’s all-time record against Marquette to 34-8, winning seven of the last eight meetings between the programs.
Green Bay will now turn its attention to Friday’s matchup at South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
