Green Bay Cruises to Victory in Exhibition with UW-Oshkosh

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women’s basketball team opened exhibition play at the Kress Center this afternoon with UW-Oshkosh. The Phoenix cruised to a 79-35 victory over the Titans and received offensive contributions from 13 different players.

Jen Wellnitz shined in Green Bay’s first matchup, scoring a game-high 17 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting performance. The redshirt sophomore also pulled down five rebounds, doled out four assists and collected three steals in 18 minutes.

Green Bay set the tone immediately in the opening quarter of play, working its way to an 18-2 lead over Oshkosh. The Phoenix never looked back from there, holding the Titans to 21.7% from the field, forcing 16 turnovers and working towards a 79-35 win.

Two other Phoenix members joined Wellnitz in double-digit scoring numbers, as redshirt freshman Frankie Wurtz scored 11 points on 4-of-7 from the field and true freshman Caitlyn Hibner tallied 11 points while shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

The Phoenix will now focus on its next Exhibition matchup with Northern Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
