Grunder Leads Green Bay in Round One of Home Invitational

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Sophomore Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.) fired a 4-over par 77 on Monday, leading the Green Bay women’s golf team in the opening round of the Green Bay Invitational. The Phoenix shot a team score of 327 at Green Bay Country Club to sit in seventh place entering Tuesday’s final round, which gets underway at 8:30 a.m.

On the par-73, 5,930 yard Green Bay Country Club course, Grunder birdied two par fours and the par-5 ninth hole on Monday to shoot the low round of her Phoenix career. Grunder is in a 9-way tie for fourth place after 18 holes.

Indianapolis (299, +7) was the lone team to break 300 on Monday and leads by 11 shots over Chicago State (310, +18). Molly Ward carded a 2-under par 71 and leads teammate Jaclyn Schneider by three shots. Butler (314, +22) is in third place while Loyola, UIC and Lewis are all tied for fourth place (320, +28). Green Bay White (360, +68) and St. Ambrose (375, +83) rounded out the field.

Sophomores Katie Pokrandt (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Steph Laude (Slinger, Wis.) are both tied for 28th after round one. Freshman Avery Steen (Luck, Wis.) and senior Grace Abitz (Appleton, Wis.) carded an 86 and 87, respectively.

For Green Bay White, senior Molly Fassbinder (Hudson, Wis.) led the way with an 86, one shot clear of sophomore teammate Lexi Wilson (Marinette, Wis.). Freshman Sierah Gurske (Brookfield, Wis.) shot a 52 on the front nine but recovered nicely with a 40 on the back nine to shoot a 92 while senior Jacki Johnson (Neenah, Wis.) posted a 95.

GREEN BAY SHOOTOUT
Pokrandt shot an 82 on Sunday as the Phoenix finished in second place in the Green Bay Shootout with a team score of 333. Chicago State won the event by shooting a 311 while UIC (342) and Green Bay White (370) finished in third and fourth place. Abitz was one shot behind Pokrandt with an 83 while Laude and Steen each carded an 84.
