GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay head women’s soccer coach Trevor Warren announced his team’s 2013 schedule on Friday, with the program slated to host eight games at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The 18-game schedule is highlighted by an early home tournament and three home contests in Horizon League play.

Warren’s squad will start the season on the road in Indiana, playing at IUPUI on Friday, Aug. 23 before battling with Ball State on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Green Bay will then open its home schedule with the Green Bay Phoenix Soccer Tournament on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1. The Phoenix will play Western Illinois on Friday, Aug. 30 at 4 p.m. before hosting Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. Northern Iowa rounds out the field, playing Eastern Illinois on Friday and Western Illinois on Sunday.
“The 2013 schedule is highlighted by our hosting the first Green Bay Phoenix Soccer Tournament,” said Warren. “Western Illinois from the Summit League will provide a tough test after finishing 13-6 last season and Eastern Illinois comes to Green Bay with first-year head coach Jason Cherry. The tournament will be a great way to kick off our home schedule.”
The next five games produce four challenging tests away from home, including trips to both DePaul (Sept. 11) and Wisconsin (Sept. 18). DePaul, a member of the BIG EAST, gave up just 18 goals in 21 games in 2012. It will be the eighth all-time meeting between the two teams and first since 2003. Green Bay has played extremely tough in its last four meetings in Madison, falling 1-0 in each of the games.
“Our road games against DePaul and Wisconsin will be true tests of where we are just before we begin Horizon League play. The last time we played in Madison the game was decided late on a solitary goal in the Badgers favor, and we look forward to that annual game against an in-state foe.”
The Phoenix will finish September with three-straight games at Santaga Stadium, including the final two non-conference games and the first Horizon League battle with new conference member Oakland on Friday, Sept. 27. The Golden Grizzlies finished 11-6-4 in 2012 and won the Summit League Tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
The Oakland game and a home contest against former Horizon League rival Loyola on Sunday, Sept. 29 will both be a part of Alumni Weekend at Santaga Stadium. Including a 0-0 double overtime tie last season, Green Bay is 1-0-3 in the past four meetings with the Ramblers.
Trips to Youngstown State (Oct. 5) and Detroit (Oct. 12) open the month of October before the Phoenix hosts Cleveland State on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. Green Bay then plays at Milwaukee on Wednesday, Oct. 23 before hosting Wright State for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. The team’s regular season finale will be at Valparaiso on Friday, Nov. 1.
