INDIANAPOLIS (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Five UW-Green Bay student-athletes have been recognized as members of the 2013 Spring Academic All-Horizon League Teams following successful semesters in competition and in the classroom. The teams were voted on by the league’s faculty athletics representatives and athletics communications directors.

Earning academic all-league honors were men’s tennis players Craig Cox (Surrey, England), Erik Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) and Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany), men’s golfer Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and softball player Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.). Finkenbrink and Fuller grabbed academic all-league accolades for the second-straight season, while the others earned their first career awards. In addition, Finkenbrink, Fuller and Hrncar each graduated on May 18 at UW-Green Bay’s commencement ceremony at the Kress Events Center.

Cox, a senior psychology major who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the spring, was a Second-Team All-Horizon League selection after finishing the year 18-5 in singles play and 13-8 at No. 1 doubles. Also the winner of the league’s Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award, Cox helped the Phoenix to a 17-7 overall record and the school’s first regular season conference title.

Finkenbrink was a First-Team All-Horizon League pick in 2013, teaming up with Cox at No. 1 doubles and ending the year with a 10-8 mark at No.1 and No. 2 singles. The senior ended his Phoenix career as the school’s all-time leader in doubles victories with 68, all while maintaining an impressive 3.89 cumulative GPA as a business administration major.

Tenzer also earned a flawless 4.0 GPA in the spring while majoring in business administration. On the court, the sophomore was tabbed as the 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year after going 16-4 in singles action, including a 14-4 record at No. 1. Tenzer went unbeaten in singles against league opponents during the regular season (6-0), and also earned a 10-4 record at No. 3 doubles.

Fuller, a senior business administration major with a 3.57 cumulative GPA, played in 12 events for the Phoenix and had a stroke average of 76.9 – good for second-best on the team. He had six top-10 finishes on the year, including a second-place showing at the Green Bay Shootout. Fuller’s standout career was highlighted by a second-place individual finish at last year’s Horizon League Championships.

Hrncar was a Second-Team All-Horizon League performer on the softball field in 2012-13 while holding a 3.8 cumulative GPA as a human biology. The senior played in 34 games for the Phoenix, starting 31 times, and had a batting average of .284 and a fielding percentage of 1.000.

In all, 91 Horizon League student-athletes were recognized across eight spring sports. The Phoenix participates in five of the eight sports, as Green Bay does not have baseball or men's and women's track and field.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
