GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – After finishing off impressive seasons in 2012-13, Green Bay men’s basketball standouts Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.) and Alec Brown (Winona, Minn.) have both been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Second Team, the NABC announced on Tuesday. The Phoenix duo was recognized among the top-10 players in District 12, and both are now eligible for the NABC Coaches’ Division I All-America Team.

Joining Brown and Sykes on the District 12 team were five other Horizon League players, including Valparaiso’s Ryan Broekhoff, Detroit’s Ray McCallum and Youngstown State’s Kendrick Perry on the first team and Detroit’s Nick Minnerath and Valpo’s Kevin Van Wijk on the second team.

A 5-foot-11 sophomore guard, Sykes was the only underclassmen to be honored in District 12. The Chicago native shined at the point guard spot in 2012-13, leading Green Bay in points (15.9) and assists (4.3) per game. A three-time Horizon League Player of the Week, Sykes was voted first-team all-conference and to the Horizon League all-tournament team.

Sykes scored 539 points this season, the most scored by a Phoenix sophomore in program history and the eighth-most in a single season in school history. With 159 free throws made, Sykes also broke the Green Bay record for free throws made in a season.

Notching double figures in 31 of 34 games and scoring 20 or more eight times, Sykes ranked third in the Horizon League in points per game. Sykes also ranked fourth in assists per game (4.3), seventh in minutes played (34.6) and eighth in free-throw percentage (815). Through two seasons, Sykes has totaled 874 points and 247 assists.

A native of Winona, Minn., Brown had another impressive season in a Phoenix uniform and earns a spot on the NABC All-District 12 Team for the second-straight season. The 7-foot-1 junior averaged 14.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots per game. Brown was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team and earned a spot on the Horizon League All-Defensive Team.

Brown became the program’s 25th member of the 1,000-point club on Jan. 25 and was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Jan. 27. He scored 20 or more points six times during 2012-13 and has done so 11 times in his career.

Among Horizon League players, Brown ranked 10th in scoring, sixth in rebounding, second in blocked shots and fourth in offensive rebounding. In conference play, Brown upped his scoring average to 15.6 points per game and 44.4 percent from long range, with both numbers ranking fourth.

In his 96-game Phoenix career, Brown has scored 1,218 points, grabbed 629 rebounds and blocked 215 shots. The versatile big man is one of just two players in Horizon League history to accumulate 1,200 points, 600 rebounds and 200 blocked shots in a career.
